What kind of workshop?
Have you ever been travelling and wanted to capture what you personally feel and sense in the natural environment; something that’s way beyond your photographic record? Working out what and how to do this while travelling is the essence of this workshop. Judith will demonstrate using a portable amount of mixed media to make painted studies and drawings. You’ll finish some small works and gather ideas and inspiration to develop others on a larger scale during the latter part of the workshop and at home.
Where in Tassie?
This is a painting drawing abstract Masterclass with Judith White designed to be a Cradle Mountain immersion resulting in artworks entirely focused on the Cradle Mountain experience. It begins with 1 night in Launceston - a meet and greet to share a meal before heading off the next day for Cradle Mountain National Park where our 4 night, four-star stay will delight with resplendent meals and cosy surrounds. Join a small group of likeminded art travellers - spend mornings savouring magical walks and devote the pm to working with Judith in the light-filled workshop space to which we have exclusive, daily access. Be inspired by this unique, diverse and pristine landscape, rounding off the adventure with a mini exhibition and party before concluding at Launceston airport.
About Judith White
2026 marks our twelfth year working with Judith White - and we couldn't have wished for a better tutor - loved by students and loved by us! She has worked professionally as an artist for over 40 years, with countless major awards and works commissioned by prestigious organisations. Judith works closely with students, helping them find their strengths and direction while sharing techniques she has refined over many years. Guests tell us the reason they come back year after year for Judith's workshops is because they learn so much and grow exponentially as artists. To learn more about Judith, visit her website.
Who’s going?
The trip is hosted by On The Verandah. Judith White is tutoring. 10-11 guests.
This workshop is best suited to -
This workshop is best suited to artists at the intermediate to advanced levels.
Fitness
You need to be "walk fit" and have good balance for this trip. You'll be walking lots of stairs, stony trails, boardwalks that may be slippery with algae, climbing in and out of buses and doing lots of standing.
Is this trip right for you?
Cradle Mountain is famed for its well-maintained walking trails and there are tracks to suit all ages and fitness from hour long strolls to multi-day hikes. We plan on doing 5-6 of the shorter easier trails so that there is sufficient time in our itinerary for art sessions. If you are feeling adventurous and are interested in more demanding or longer walks, you’ll need to extend your stay to accommodate those. (Consider a guided walk with Tasmanian Walking Co or one of the many other businesses.) If you would like to plan a walking trip to compliment your art trip, and need a list of the walks we have included, we can provide that.
