Kimberley Art Workshop with Nada Murphy7 Days - AUGUST 13th - 19th, 2017
This is a 7 day Adventure for Art Creators of all levels, providing a non-competitive environment for you to explore art mediums and techniques. The workshop is diverse, hands-on and fun - designed to help you explore your personal creative style. Taking place on a cattle station in the east Kimberley, 2 hours from Kununurra, the art program is structured over five to six days during which you'll travel in comfort, venturing "off the beaten track" and into wilderness areas not open to the public. You'll explore deep into the landscape, have unique experiences and meet colourful characters. You'll have your own comfortable Bush Hut or shared Bunkhouse room and we spend one night camping out beside a beautiful private billabong at the foot of the Cockburn Ranges. What will you learn? Fun, Experimentation and Fundamentals. The beauty of this workshop is that there is the freedom to either concentrate on your favourite discipline - expand and develop your fundamental skills (eg. drawing, painting) with Nada's guidance or, try out a variety of crafty arts, from collage, basketry, bush fibre and fabric dyeing, boab carving, print making, night drawing, ink work, mark making and more. Where will we be based? You will be based at Digger's Rest Station in the east Kimberley, 2 hours NW of Kununurra, Western Australia. This is a rustic working station with lots of characters and interesting goings-on. Just being here is part of the whole experience. This workshop is best suited to - Beginner through to advanced artists, animal/nature lovers, who want to immerse themselves not only in art techniques and mediums, in a variety of station experiences and stunning Kimberley scenery in the company of likeminded souls. You will need to meet minimum fitness requirements as we are remotely located. Escape winter - In August, the East Kimberley has daily temperatures ranging from 25 to 35 degrees C. Overnight temps range from 12 to 25. It is late dry season and humidity may be starting to rise, but rain is unusual. Not just art - As well art tuition over five days, the itinerary includes complimentary welcome champagne, and opportunities to fish for barramundi, ride in a bull buggy, crack a whip, visit aboriginal art, take part in a cultural experience, hike, a one night camp, exhibition and party. (Champagne sunset horse rides are available for experienced riders for an additional charge.) Nada Murphy is a Perth based artist with a multi-discipline approach to interpreting the landscape. Recent exhibitions celebrated the Kimberley by exploring the stories and the layers of this spectacular ancient landscape. Nada brings a lifetime of artistic experience to her teaching.
