Painting and Drawing Workshop
With Michael Herron
The Kimberley: July 9 - 15, 2021
About Michael Herron
Michael Herron has worked professionally as an artist since 1987 and began teaching painting and drawing classes to adults in 1995. He’s travelled, painted, lectured and taught all across Australia from Kakadu to Larapinta and the Flinders Ranges and currently resides in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Winning The Sydney Morning Herald Travelling Art scholarship in 1988 allowed him to travel Europe, Asia and America for over two years and include four months of solid painting in the Cite Internationale des Artes, Paris.
Michael has consistently been exhibited by galleries (including four solo shows at Tim Olsen Gallery, Sydney), won numerous art awards and has works held in the private collections including Luca Belgiorno-Nettis and Ros Packer. To learn more about Michael, visit his website.
What will you learn during a Michael Herron Kimberley Workshop?
Art sessions typically begin in the field at various outdoor locations offering different qualities and views. Initially you’ll be encouraged to sketch liberally on paper as you observe your early responses to the new environment.
Building on that momentum, you’ll explore either larger works on paper or paintings. Some works may be started and completed on location while most lend themselves to development back in the bush studio (verandahs).
Michael tailors his teaching to your needs and encourages you to take your own path. At times Michael will work beside you, mentoring you through your work and progress in the relaxed, peaceful settings. At the end of the week we cap off the experience in Kimberley style, dressing up for an informal art exhibition with sparkling and nibbles.
Of his workshops he says, “I like that you can feel the momentum, energy and excitement build in the group during the workshop. People get inspired by the place and the results they are getting.”
