Dive into the art of printmaking with Mellissa Read-Devine, exploring linocut, drypoint, collagraph, and monotype techniques using simple tools. You'll gather inspiration from plein air mark-making and leave with finished prints and all the materials you need to continue creating at home.

All levels of artist - printmakers and painters alike - are invited to join this 7 day (6 night) Printmaking itinerary.  You'll stay 6 nights on a working Kimberley cattle station in the East Kimberley region of northern Western Australia - Australia's last true wilderness; exploring a remote, authentic corner of Australia, gaining a renewed sense of creativity and meaningful connectedness.

About the tutor - Mellissa Read-Devine
Mellissa, originally from England and raised in Australia, now calls the Hawkesbury River in rural Sydney home. Living in Darwin during the 90s, influenced by the local art scene and outback, led Mellissa to painting initially then on to further study and exploring various mediums.

Mellissa now specialises in relief printmaking and acrylic painting. She has showcased her work in many group shows, held 16 solo exhibitions, and been a finalist in major Australian Art Prizes. In 2021, Mellissa was recognised as a Fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW and has regularly tutored there for over 9 years.

“Be captivated by the powerful immediacy and extraordinary colour emerging from Mellissa’s paintings. They are visually spectacular and invite the viewer to search for further harmony and empathy with the natural landscape.” Robin Williams PhD, Purple Noon Gallery

Fitness
The Kimberley environment is challenging for many reasons, not least the heat. You'll need to be a devoted hat-wearer and water-drinker and be stable on your feet over rugged, loose terrain.

Escape winter
June and July are peak DRY season in the East Kimberley with maximum temperatures that could reach 36 degrees but usually sit between 28 and 33. Overnight temps average 16 but could dip as low as 10. It is the dry season so rain is possible, but uncommon.
