Join acclaimed West Australian writer, Dr Nandi Chinna for a fascinating writer's odyssey through the East Kimberley. Nandi is an experienced and in-demand tutor and she'll support you to access your own deep, still pool of creativity and write fearlessly. With the remote Kimberley wilderness at your bush hut door, and uninterrupted time and space, you'll learn techniques for moving the reader with compelling writing.

Come with us on a unique writing workshop - the only one of it's kind in Australia, where you stay on a cattle station and immerse in the remote, beautiful Kimberley wilderness.
The workshop is fun, non-competitive and supportive. Your tutor is Nandi Chinna, an award-winning writer who combines her passion for the natural environment with a long-term dedication to the creative word.
What will you learn? -
With the stunning Kimberley environment as inspiration and meditation, Nandi will engage you in deep listening, sensory walking, and wild writing. Enjoy five days tuition over numerous locations plus many additional fun activities.You will be guided through the techniques of deep listening, utilising the rhythm of walking, sensory walking, excavating buried dreams, mining for metaphors and silencing the inner critic. The artist's language is a sensory one, a language of felt experience and you'll learn by doing, to produce many pieces of writing with ample opportunity to edit, read and perform your work.

About your tutor - Dr Nandi Chinna.
Dr Nandi Chinna is a research consultant, poet, and essayist; an inspiring teacher who has taught creative writing to people of all ages for over 20 years. Her appearances as guest poet include Perth Writers' Festival, Five Islands Press poets tour of the east coast of Australia and the ‘Literary London’ Conference in Bloomsbury UK.
Nandi's publications include, 'Our Only Guide is Our Homesickness' (Five Islands Press, 2007), 'How to Measure Land', which was joint winner of the 2010 Picaro Press Byron Bay Writers Festival Poetry Prize, and 'Swamp; walking the wetlands of the Swan Coastal Plain' (Fremantle Press, 2014). Her wetland poem 'Cut and Paste Lake' won the 2014 Tom Collins Poetry Prize.
Nandi has collaborated on several Visual Art exhibition including; In Conversation – sculptural collaboration with Nein Schwarz, Danna Checksfield, and Michael Wingate, 2014; Hack the Festival – digital cartography project, Perth Festival, 2015; SKRYF – with Gijs van Bon, Fremantle Festival, 2015, Direct Address’, with Perdita Phillips, Nein Schwarz, Holly Story and Sharyn Egan, and Field working Slow Making, Sharyn Egan, George Karpathakis, Annette Nykiel, Perdita Phillips, Nien Schwarz, Nalda Searles and Holly Story, 2016. Nandi’s ‘History of Clontarf Hill’ won the 2016 Fremantle History Award. In 2016 Nandi was the inaugural Writer in Residence at Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth, Western Australia.
Where will you be writing?
Stunning locations are within easy reach of the remote station. You'll go out daily for sensory walks and will have endless opportunities to extend your skills and immerse yourself in the unique imagery of the Kimberley.

Escape the winter!
Typical weather in May in the East Kimberley features an average daytime maximums of 33.5 degrees and average overnight minimums of 20.6 degrees. It is the end of the wet season so rain is unusual. Expect warm and dry weather.
Things to Bring - Pens, pads, laptop, thesaurus, watch, phone, glasses - whatever you normally use to write. A pocket-size notebook might be handy.

There are two main types of accommodation.
Bush Hut - Bush Huts each have one double bed, verandah, mosquito net, ensuite, fan, powerpoint, light, towels and linen. There are four Bush Huts suiting single or couples accommodation, allocated on a first come, first served basis. Advantages of the bush hut - peaceful, beautiful views, wildlife to wake up to. Stay in a bush hut for an authentic Kimberley experience.
We have one SHARED bush hut with two single beds. This hut is best suited to friends or a couple, is a fun option and we offer a DISCOUNT to guests who choose this option.
Bunkhouse room - The two bunkhouse rooms are usually shared by two guests each. Each bunkhouse room has a double bed plus three single beds, air conditioning, overhead fans, towels, linen. The bunkhouse has a shared bathroom. Advantages of the bunkhouse - spacious, air conditioned, large verandahs, close to the homestead and a DISCOUNT for guests who choose this option.
TENT - we also have the discounted option of a comfy tent for guests who don't mind roughing it and do not want to share, for when unshared accommodation is already taken.
If you snore loudly please do not book yourself in a shared room.
