Women's Kimberley Adventure - August 14-20, 2018
We’ll pick you up mid morning in Kununurra from the airport or your hotel. Grab any last minute items you need for the week before we have a café lunch. Jump in the vehicles and we have a 2 hour drive to our base for the week - the remote Kimberley cattle station, Digger’s Rest.
At the station we’ll show you to your accommodation, show you around and meet the owners, Rod and Alida over dinner. Later, share a yarn around the fire.
After a cooked breakfast we’ll introduce you to your horse and explore the Station on horseback with a two to three hour ride along the King River, easing into the saddle and into "Kimberley time".
After lunch, have a go at cracking a whip. (Crack and cackle!)
Mid afternoon we'll gather for a cultural experience beneath a gigantic boab tree on the riverbank with some local women. After dinner, enjoy wine and music under the stars around the fire.
Up early to catch the tides and fish for barramundi before breakfast. After breakfast, have a laugh with a fun bull buggy ride around the station. In the middle of the day (for those who aren't relaxing in a hammock) have a go at weaving a basket, a dilly bag or carve a boab nut to take home.
Mid afternoon, riders are invited to go on a sunset ride with opportunities for long canters that can only be described as magical while non-riding guests can travel in vehicles to meet the riders for a champagne sunset. On the way you’ll see locations where Hugh and Nicole filmed scenes for ‘Australia’. Then it's back to the station for dinner and music around the fire.
Full day ride – Now you're feeling relaxed in the saddle and getting to know your horse, it's time for a slightly more demanding ride as we head up the scenic King River Valley. Scenic trails cross numerous dry creeks and wind through tea tree scrub. After a picnic lunch on a waterlily billabong we'll weave our way back through open woodland and grassy plains.
There's a half day riding option. Non-riding guests can travel in the support vehicle so as not to miss the fun. We'll be back at the station with time to freshen up for dinner and enjoy sitting around the fire.
Full day out – The first Wyndham Horse Races took place in 1886 and not much has changed since then. The dirt racetrack on the Wyndham marsh is all part of the experience. You won't be out of place in dusty jeans and boots, but if you feel like breaking out the heels and the bling, you might find yourself taking out ‘Fashions in the Field’!
After the last race and the traditional Two-Up round, we’ll take in the sunset with champagne and nibbles from the world-class, Five Rivers Lookout before joining the post-race party with dancing and live band.
Have a free morning, a sleep in, or come with us as we visit a local cave art site and walk to a lookout above Moochalabra Creek and the historic “Prison Boab” Tree. We can schedule more fishing if you are keen.
In the afternoon we saddle up for the last ride – a relaxing two or three hour ride through the gilgais or maybe help move some cattle. Final night champagne and nibbles out on the Karunjie Stock Route for a memorable view of sunset on the Cockburn Ranges. Then it's dinner at the station, party and fun.
After breakfast and farewells we head to Kununurra via Marlgu Bird Sanctuary for bird and crocodile spotting. You'll see why people come from all over the world to view wildlife at this special sanctuary.
We’ll deliver you to Kununurra in time for your afternoon flights, or drop you off at your hotel.
